Return to Tyler

Augustus F. Tyler

In what feels like a lifetime’s work, I’ve been chasing information on Augustus F. Tyler. I saw a record that said he was from Guilford County, North Carolina. He then moved to Raysville, Indiana. Around 1850 he moved to Harrison County, Kentucky and then later on to Bracken County, Kentucky.

During the War, he enlisted as a private and was captured. During a second round of service he attained the rank of Captain.

By 1870 he was back in Harrison County, Kentucky. He became a teacher in Oddville and then Cynthiana. Eventually becoming the head of the Cynthiana Schools.

Do you know anything about Captain / Professor Tyler?
