Judge Henry Hutchings Haviland d. 2 Mar 1910 of paralysis.

His great-great grandfather was James Haviland, who was born in New York on 25 May 1740 and died 25 Nov 1786, was a farmer and his wife was Miss Ann Hanniwell. James Haviland’s son, Israel, was born in New York in 1765. and became a prominent shoe manufacturer in New York. He married Miss Jane Anderson and had 14 children. One of the children was Robert S. Haviland born in 11 Nov 1796 and came to Kentucky in 1818. He married Mrs. Mary C. Stewart in 1820 and died in Havilandsville, Harrison county in 1858. Their children were, Henry H., William S., James A., Malinda Jane Poindexter, Mary Anne White, Martha Jane Hamilton and Margaret Conway of whom William S. is now the only one surviving. Henry H. Haviland the third born was born at Havilandsville on 16 March 1825 and while he was a child his parents moved to Lexington, but after residing there for four years they returned to Havilandsville, where they spent their remaining days. Henry H. took a business course at a commercial college in Cincinnati and for some years assisted his father in the mercantile business. For some time he was postmaster of Havilandsville. He became one of the best known and regarded citizens in Harrison County, and in 1879 was elected as County Judge, serving a four years term in that office. He was the oldest Mason in Harrison County, being one of the twelve charter members of the St. Andrews Lodge, F.A. & M., whose pictures are now on the wall in the Masonic building in this city. He married Miss Susan Scroggin, of Woodford County, in 1868, their only child being Miss Sidney Haviland, who survives. His wife died some 12 years ago. Buried at Battle Grove.

Deaths

Judge Henry H. Haviland died at his home in this city yesterday, Wednesday. He had been suffering from infirmities of age for some time and for the past few weeks his condition had been critical. He was in his 85th year. Judge Haviland was born in Havilandsville, this county. His parents were Robert S. and Mary Stewart Haviland. There were 9 children of whom only one survives, William S. Haviland who resides near Cynthiana and is in his 87th year. Judge Haviland is survived by a daughter, Miss Sidonia Haviland. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral took place at his residence on East Pike St. on Friday with burial in Battle Grove.
